Song For Christy

Christy Moore is an inspiration to all solo performers and one of my great heroes. Having made the decision that this album would consist entirely of my own songs the only way I was going to get to sing a Christy Moore song was to write one. So here it is.

I kind of sensed something was happening
I saw a poster on the door
And someone said it was the biggest thing
Had ever happened in Dromore

He took the stage with his guitar in hand
He looked us over one and all
He gives this look and then he starts to sing
A quiet fell over the hall

He had us hanging on his every word
He had us captured in his gaze
They were the best songs that we’d ever heard
Hanging on to every word and phrase

He had us clapping till our hands were sore
Our feet were thumping on the floor
I said to someone just who is that man
“You must be jokin’ that’s Christy Moore”

He sings of heroes and of working men
Of coal mines, rebels, days of yore
Broken tokens all his songs were gems
And so the crowd cried out for more “Christy Moore”

Diddely I di diddely I diddely I diddely I doh
Diddely I di diddely I diddely I doh
Diddely I di diddely I diddely I diddely I doh
Diddely I di diddely I diddely I doh
